Social Listening Tools

Brandwatch vs Mention

Brandwatch and Mention are social listening tools for communications, marketing and research teams that track what people say about their brand online. Brandwatch is built for research on public conversation, while Mention is built to measure share of mentions against named competitors. Enterprise insights and research groups fit Brandwatch, and marketing teams that report on that share fit Mention.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose Brandwatch if you need to profile the age, gender and interests of the people behind a conversation. Choose Mention if you already use Agorapulse and want listening beside the inbox you moderate from. Both are sold by quote, with a sales conversation first and no published price.

An insights team can ask a plain question about a set of mentions and get back a written summary of what changed and why. Brandwatch also finds a brand's logo in images and video, even when the post carries no text mention. Beyond its core research product, the publishing and influencer tools are separate solutions, each with plans of its own.

When a PR team has to report on coverage, Mention can attach an advertising value to it. It also ranks the authors behind mentions by reach, so a team can see which voices carry furthest. It works alongside a social media management tool instead of replacing one. Mention has deprecated its own publishing and replying features and points customers to Agorapulse for them.

In reviews from 2020 to 2026, Brandwatch's users call it reliable for crisis and reputation monitoring, with responsive support during setup. Some find its learning curve steep, with many modules that can overwhelm a new user. Mention's reviewers from 2017 to 2025 praise how widely it monitors, across many sources and beyond simple keyword alerts. Agencies and brand teams also like that it helps them track and engage with mentions and reviews across channels. Others find Mention's pricing expensive or poor value, especially on higher plans.

In a case study, Brandwatch describes a mental health provider that followed online conversations about topics like autism and anxiety to plan content and protect its reputation. The provider saw a consistent rise in positive sentiment around mentions of its brand. Mention tells of a small app company that tracked the app's popularity on social media and sought advocates to engage. The tool showed a spike in popularity among Instagram users in South Korea, so the company quickly translated its ads into Korean to reach that market.
