Customer Journey Orchestration

Braze vs CleverTap

Braze and CleverTap are both customer journey orchestration platforms that trigger push, email, SMS, WhatsApp and in-app messages across shared journeys for consumer brands. Braze centers on its Canvas journey builder and AI-driven decisioning, built for teams with engineering support running SDKs across a growing channel mix. CleverTap bundles the same channels with behavioral analytics, RFM segmentation and churn prediction, aimed at consumer apps chasing retention without a separate analytics team. A team choosing between them is choosing between Braze's engineering-heavy real-time depth and CleverTap's built-in analytics and retention scoring.

Which Should You Choose?

The choice between them turns on engineering capacity and which job matters most: real-time messaging precision or built-in retention analytics. A mid-market or enterprise brand with engineers to run iOS, Android and web SDKs, wanting a journey that calls an external API mid-flow and starts from a prebuilt template, fits Braze. A consumer app or e-commerce team wanting segments that keep re-evaluating membership, a live journey it can edit without disrupting people already inside it, and churn scoring built in, fits CleverTap.

Braze's case rests on Canvas, the drag-and-drop builder where Decision Split branching, Audience and Action Paths, and Experiment Paths with a holdout group let a team test journey variants before a full rollout. Connected Content, a step listed only for Braze, pulls a live API answer into a message mid-journey. Reviewers writing during 2025 call Canvas intuitive for complex, multi-channel flows and credit the support team. The same reviewers report no autosave, lost work, and native analytics and integrations, including a missing Salesforce connector, limited enough to push teams elsewhere.

CleverTap's case rests on built-in analytics: RFM segmentation groups users by how recently, often and heavily they engage, and churn scoring flags who is about to leave before a win-back journey fires. CleverTap alone lists two features here: segments that keep re-evaluating membership automatically, and journey versioning, so people already inside a flow stay put while new entrants get the edited version. Reviewers, from 2017 to 2026, call SDK integration straightforward, segmentation accurate and support responsive. The same reviewers call the interface unintuitive, documentation outdated, the dashboard sluggish outside business hours, and pricing steep as event volume grows.

The two review records differ in age. Braze's reviews all date from May to September 2025. CleverTap's stretch from 2017 to 2026, so some of its praise and complaints describe earlier versions.

Canva, which Braze describes as a media and entertainment customer in Asia-Pacific, used Braze's email platform, with Connected Content for localizing messages into 20 languages, to scale weekly send volume from 30 million to 50 million emails. The vendor reports a 33 percent rise in open rates alongside that growth. KoinWorks, which CleverTap describes as an Indonesian lending platform for small businesses, used CleverTap Journeys for onboarding, activation and win-back flows. The vendor reports a 30 percent rise in sales per customer and a 70 percent drop in cost per active user.
