YouTrack
by JetBrains • • Bug & Issue Tracking Software
YouTrack is a JetBrains project management and issue tracking tool with agile boards, a knowledge base and helpdesk, hosted by JetBrains or on your own server.
YouTrack gives a team one place to plan work, track bugs and keep the documents that explain both. JetBrains, the company behind IntelliJ IDEA and TeamCity, builds and sells it. Teams either use YouTrack Cloud, which JetBrains hosts, or install YouTrack Server from a Linux or Windows Docker image. It is meant for every team that plans work, from developers and QA to support, marketing, design, operations and legal. Projects hold tasks with custom fields, issue links and an activity stream. A search query language finds any set of issues, and a saved search shares that view with the team. Agile Boards run Scrum sprints or a Kanban flow from a ranked backlog, with burndown and cumulative flow charts. Gantt Charts schedule work with start dates and dependencies, and Timesheets record the time spent on each task. The Knowledge Base holds team articles, while Whiteboards turn a rough sketch into tasks and articles in one click. Workflows built in the Workflow Constructor or in JavaScript change fields and assignments on their own. Helpdesk projects add a ticket desk for customers, with SLA policies that time each reply and resolution. YouTrack suits software teams that want issues, sprints and documentation in one tool rather than a tracker beside a separate wiki. Developers who already code in JetBrains IDEs or build with TeamCity get a tracker made by the same company. Support staff answer customer tickets in Helpdesk projects, next to the engineering work those tickets turn into. Both small startups and large enterprises run it, and organisations that keep their data in-house choose YouTrack Server over the cloud edition. JetBrains also offers it to teams moving away from Jira and Confluence. Bug work shows how the pieces connect. A tester files an issue, and a developer names it in a commit message on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. The commit then appears on the issue, and the pull request status shows in its activity stream. People who live in Slack get the updates there and can turn a message into an issue draft. A product manager places the same issues on a Gantt timeline to plan the release, then records what was decided in a Knowledge Base article. That loop, from a reported bug to a shipped fix to a written record, is the work YouTrack is built to carry.
