Yellowfin turns data held in warehouses and databases into dashboards, reports and alerts that business users can act on. A team frustrated by the cost and complexity of analytics tools built it in 2003, and Idera, Inc. has owned it since 2022. The same platform serves two jobs: analytics inside a company, and analytics embedded inside another company's software. Authors build reports in a drag-and-drop builder and lay out dashboards from the Blueprint panel of chart elements. Guided NLQ lets a user type a question in plain language and get a chart back. Yellowfin Signals watches the data on its own and notifies people when something significant changes. Yellowfin Stories and Yellowfin Present combine charts and tables with written narrative, and Broadcast sends reports out on a schedule or when a threshold is crossed. Access Filters restrict the rows each viewer sees, and an in-memory analytical database runs high-performance queries on premises or in the cloud. The embedded side is aimed at software vendors and OEMs that want white-labelled dashboards inside their own product, matched to its look and feel. The enterprise side suits analytics teams that publish dashboards for managers and staff, including in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing and retail. Organisations with strict hosting rules can run it on their own servers, in their own cloud or in a hybrid setup. Teams that would rather not run servers can have Yellowfin host it as a fully managed service. A software company typically uses it to give each customer a dashboard of their own usage, inside the app they already log in to. An operations team relies on Signals to be told when a key metric shifts, without building a report to look for it. Data can stay in Snowflake or Databricks and be queried over a live connection rather than copied out first. Managers then follow the same reports on the iOS and Android apps, away from a desk.
