Rider is a cross-platform .NET and game development IDE from JetBrains for C#, ASP.NET Core, Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot work on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Rider lets developers write, navigate, test and debug .NET and game code in one application, whichever desktop operating system they use. JetBrains, an independent developer tools company, makes it alongside IntelliJ IDEA, ReSharper and CLion. The IDE resolves a whole solution, including types, usages, dependencies and framework conventions. AI agents working in a project can call on the same refactorings, inspections, debugger and profiler to make changes and check them. The editor reads C#, F#, VB.NET, XAML, JavaScript and TypeScript, along with ASP.NET pages in Razor or ASPX. Code completion offers the classes, methods and variables in scope, and Go to Declaration and Go to Usages jump through large codebases. Its refactorings always take the entire solution into account, and the inspections include a set written for Entity Framework. Execution pauses at breakpoints, where the debugger steps line by line and evaluates expressions. NUnit, xUnit.net and MSTest suites run from icons in the gutter. Bundled dotTrace and dotMemory views profile a running program, and a database tool window edits schemas and table data and runs queries. A visual merge tool resolves conflicts in Git, Subversion, Mercurial, Perforce or TFS, and type dependency diagrams show how C# and Visual Basic types relate. C# developers who build ASP.NET Core services, Blazor front ends and backends for Azure are a core audience. Game programmers get support for Unity, Unreal Engine with C++ and Blueprints, Godot and custom engines, with shaders and build pipelines handled in the same window. Teams keeping desktop and enterprise applications alive on WPF, WinForms, .NET MAUI or Avalonia work with UI designers, previewers and Hot Reload. Because it runs on macOS and Linux as well as Windows, .NET developers away from Windows keep a full IDE. A web team can work on endpoints, packages, databases and tests in context, then run and debug the complete application. A Unity developer can pause a game at a breakpoint, inspect its variables, and then compare branches and commit without opening another tool. When code lives on a server, the IDE backend can run remotely while a developer works from a local client. Agents such as Junie, GitHub Copilot or Codex connect on a developer's own API key or on JetBrains AI. Their edits arrive as a diff a developer can comment on and send back, with debugging, testing and profiling a click away. For a C# team spread across operating systems, Rider keeps web, desktop and game work in one toolset.
