Midjourney is an AI image and video generator for artists and designers, used on the web or in Discord, with four subscription tiers and no public API.

Midjourney is an AI image generator that turns written prompts into finished pictures, and now into short video clips as well. It is built and sold by Midjourney, Inc., an independent research lab that funds itself from subscriptions rather than outside investment. The service runs in a browser at midjourney.com and through the Midjourney bot on Discord, with one account and one subscription covering both. It is made for people whose work starts with an image they can describe long before they could photograph or draw it. Prompts are written in the Imagine bar, where Draft Mode trades resolution for speed while an idea is still forming and Conversational Mode helps shape the wording by text or voice. Style is steered with Style Reference codes, Moodboards, Personalization profiles and the Style Creator, while the Edit model and Omni Reference hold a character or object steady from one picture to the next. Finished images move into the Editor for inpainting with Vary Region, canvas extension with Pan and Zoom Out, and enlargement with Creative Upscale. Parameters cover the rest, including aspect ratio, seed, the No parameter for what must stay out of frame, and Repeat and permutation prompts for running many variations from one submission. Any image in the gallery can then be animated into video. Midjourney suits concept artists, illustrators, art directors and designers who are comfortable describing a look in words and iterating on it. Accounts are individual, and the company offers no seat management, no single sign on and no administrative console, so it fits solo creators and small studios rather than centrally managed teams. Anyone who needs images generated inside an existing pipeline should know that the service is used through its own web app and through Discord. Subscriptions run monthly or annually across four tiers, each with its own pool of generation time. Commercial and creative production fills most of the working hours: concept art for games and film, editorial and social imagery, packaging and poster directions, and reference boards for a client pitch. Images are made on the Create page, sorted into folders on the Organize page, and either published to the public Explore gallery or held back from it, which subscribers on the higher tiers do with Stealth Mode. Output leaves as ordinary image files, so the tools that sit beside it are the ones a designer already runs rather than anything Midjourney connects to directly. Every image it delivers carries a hidden identifier that midjourney.com/verify will check for free, without an account.
