HelpDocs is knowledge base software for SaaS and support teams to host a public help center or private internal docs, sold self-serve by an independent company.
HelpDocs is where a support team writes its help articles and publishes them, either as a branded help center or as documentation only staff can open. Customers reach the same articles through search, the Lighthouse widget inside a product, or Ask AI. HelpDocs Ltd has built it since June 2016 and remains independent and bootstrapped. Writing happens in a WYSIWYG block editor, with Markdown Blocks for authors who prefer plain syntax. Working Copy keeps edits to a live article in a draft, and revision history restores an earlier save. Clips hold blocks of content and Variables hold single values, so one change updates every article that uses them. Stale flags mark pages due for a check, Stats report failed searches and a Happiness Score, and HelpDocs AI drafts, rewrites and writes meta descriptions. The product suits SaaS companies and customer support teams of small to mid size that want a hosted knowledge base rather than one they build themselves. A team leaving Zendesk, Intercom, Help Scout, Freshdesk, Document360, GitBook or Notion can bring its articles with the migrator suite. Companies with security rules can use permission groups, single sign-on, an audit trail and IP restriction. A team signs up and builds on its own, with no demo call or quote request in the way. HelpDocs runs as a public help center on a team's own domain, styled with custom CSS and HTML templates, or as an internal base behind a staff login. Product teams embed Lighthouse in their app so a user reads the answer without leaving the screen. Native integrations reach the help desk a team already runs, such as Zendesk, Intercom or Front, and send reader traffic to Google Analytics or Plausible. The MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT answer from the same library. The daily job is keeping one set of answers correct, with a Clip edited once and updated wherever it appears.
