Assembla is managed source code hosting for Git, SVN and Perforce teams, with merge requests and tickets, owned by Idera and sold per user.
Assembla gives software teams one hosted home for code kept in Git, Subversion or Perforce, so they do not run their own version control servers. It was founded in 2005 and is an Idera, Inc. company. Idera announced the acquisition on 1 November 2018, buying it from Scaleworks, which had owned it since 2016. Idera lists Assembla among its developer tools. Work is organised in spaces that hold repositories, team members and the Tickets tool, so a commit can be linked to the ticket it closes. Merge Requests carry code review for Git, Subversion and Perforce changes, with inline comments in the Files tab and upvotes or downvotes. Protected Branches block direct pushes and set how many reviewers must approve a merge. Git LFS works over SSH and HTTPS for large binary files. The Code Security Scanner checks commits for hardcoded passwords and access keys, then alerts managers. Assembla suits teams that still depend on Subversion or Perforce and want them managed, and studios whose repositories carry large binary assets. Small teams that only need hosting take the Starter plan, priced per user, and growing teams choose Growth, which adds project management beside the code. Custom Cloud serves organizations with isolation and compliance requirements, as a dedicated single-tenant environment with a self-hosted option. Access is set through space and portfolio roles, user groups and Subversion path-based authorization, with SAML 2.0 and Google sign-in. A typical change starts as a ticket, moves through a branch and a merge request, and lands on a protected branch once reviewers approve it. Builds can run in the tools a team already uses: Jenkins connects to merge requests, and Travis CI and Unity Cloud Build connect as integrations. Teams on Perforce can back up their depots to Amazon S3. For a team working across Perforce, Subversion and Git at once, Assembla keeps every repository type under one account and one set of permissions.
