Amazon Quick Sight
by Amazon • • Business Intelligence Software
Amazon Quick Sight, formerly QuickSight, is AWS's fully managed business intelligence service for dashboards, paginated reports and plain-language Q&A.
Amazon Quick Sight turns data held in warehouses, data lakes and business applications into interactive dashboards that a whole organization can open online or in its iOS and Android apps. Amazon Web Services (AWS), part of Amazon.com, Inc., builds it and runs it as a managed service on its own hosts, so there is no server to install. The product started life as Amazon QuickSight. It now continues as Amazon Quick Sight, the analytics part of Amazon Quick, which also covers Quick Automate, Quick Research, Quick Flows and Quick Index. Authors connect a dataset and shape it in the dataset editor with joins, filters and calculated fields. They then query the source directly or import it into SPICE, the in-memory engine, on a refresh schedule. Topics describe the data once, with column metadata, synonyms and shared calculations, and Q&A uses them to answer a typed question with a chart. ML Insights flags anomalies and ranks the drivers behind a change without anyone asking. Pixel-perfect reports produce multipage PDF and CSV output with exact layouts and email it on a schedule. Quick Sight suits organizations whose data already lives in Amazon Redshift, Athena or S3, and analytics teams that want one governed model behind many casual viewers. Each person holds a role: Readers explore dashboards, get email reports and download data, while Authors build and share content. Pro versions of both roles add generative data stories and scenarios for what-if analysis. Software companies embed its dashboards in their own applications, and a Standard Edition serves individuals and small groups through an API. Recurring jobs include a paginated operations pack mailed to managers each month, a sales dashboard where row-level security shows each regional lead only their own territory, and an analytics tab inside a SaaS product. Data can come from Snowflake, Google BigQuery or Databricks as well as from AWS sources, and connectors also reach Salesforce, Jira and Microsoft SQL Server. When a dashboard is ready, the Asset Bundle APIs move it from a development account through test to production. Databases inside a company network join in through a VPC connection or by allowing the service's IP ranges. People who never write SQL then ask questions of a Topic and get answers built on the same definitions the analysts maintain.
