Choose ChurnZero if your health scores should run on billing and product usage data, such as subscription data from a billing system or events from Snowflake or BigQuery, and you want a customer-facing hub for plans and tasks. Choose Gainsight Customer Success if you want accounts and contacts synced both ways with your CRM, Salesforce above all, if help desk tickets should feed health scores, and if an operations person will own the setup. The two belong to different companies, and both are sold by quote.
Five features are listed only for ChurnZero: churn risk prediction, lifecycle stages and segments, a shared customer hub, billing sync and a data warehouse connector. Its homepage describes AI agents that protect revenue without added headcount, which is the vendor's claim. Reviewers from earlier years report limited dashboard customization and a learning curve.
Gainsight Customer Success starts from the account record. Of the two, only it lists two-way CRM sync, help desk tickets in the health score and automatic logging of CSM email and meetings. Its own comparison page says it is designed for teams that run customer success as an enterprise revenue discipline. Operations people tend to own its configuration.
Reviewers describe older experience with both: ChurnZero's reviews mostly date from 2017 to 2023, Gainsight Customer Success's from 2016 to May 2024. For ChurnZero they praise responsive support, segments and playbooks that cut manual outreach, and health scores that flag accounts needing attention. They complain of limited dashboard customization, a learning curve and a ChurnScore that is hard to set up or validate. For Gainsight they praise scorecards and task queues that show whom to call next, and helpful support; they complain of a steep learning curve, a need for a dedicated administrator, high cost and cluttered reporting. Gainsight reviewers split on Salesforce integration, some praising it and some criticising it.
For a worked example, ChurnZero's case study, dated February 2026, describes Greenlight Guru, a MedTech software provider, using it for usage visibility across three products and health-score prioritisation by CSMs; the vendor reports higher retention year over year. For Gainsight, its own site carries a 2018 post saying Allocadia, a marketing performance management software company, built a customer health score with Gainsight, without naming which Gainsight product.
Each vendor publishes a page against the other, and each claim about the rival is the vendor's own: ChurnZero's says Gainsight requires a dedicated admin, Gainsight's says ChurnZero's ChurnScores must be defined and maintained by teams. Neither page describes a migration path, so ask each in a demo who builds the health score and how long a comparable customer took to go live.
