Twilio is the cloud communications company behind the SendGrid email platform, the Segment customer data platform and the Messaging, Voice and Flex APIs.

Twilio is a San Francisco company, founded in 2008, that sells communications and customer data infrastructure to developers and the marketing teams they work with. Its company page describes a toolbox for digital experiences built from communications, data and AI, available in more than 180 countries and territories and used by more than 400,000 active customer accounts. The original products are the programmable Messaging and Voice APIs; Flex is its contact centre and Engage is its marketing orchestration layer. Two acquisitions matter most to a marketing buyer. Twilio SendGrid is the email platform: a transactional Email API and SMTP relay that reports more than 205 billion emails a month, plus Marketing Campaigns for newsletters and drip automation. Twilio Segment is the customer data platform: sources, destinations, warehouse sync, reverse ETL and, on enterprise plans, identity resolution and audiences. Both sendgrid.com and segment.com now redirect into twilio.com, where the pricing pages and docs live. Twilio publishes self-serve prices for SendGrid and for Segment's Connections tier, extensive developer documentation and a status page. It serves engineering teams building messaging, email and data pipelines into their own products, and the marketing teams that buy the campaign and audience layers on top, and each product's plan cards list its tiers.
