Synthesia is an AI video generator that turns scripts into avatar-presented videos for training, HR and internal comms teams, sold on credit-based plans.
Synthesia produces presenter-led video from text, so a team can publish training or explainer footage without booking a camera, a studio or an actor. The London company of the same name builds and runs it, independently, since its founding in 2017. A video can start from a script, a PDF, a PowerPoint deck, a web page or a short prompt. Changing the message later means editing the words and regenerating, not reshooting. The Assistant drafts an editable outline from a prompt, and Edit with AI rewrites, shortens or changes the tone of a script in place. In the editor, the Storyboard view lays out the scenes while the timeline layers animations and effects at any moment. Stock AI avatars, Personal Avatars and Studio Avatars read the script in synthetic voices, with captions generated from the same text. AI Dubbing re-voices an existing recording in another language while keeping the speaker's own voice, with lip-sync as an option. The AI screen recorder, Brand Kits, Comment mode and the Multilingual Video Player cover capture, branding, review and publishing. Learning and development teams, HR teams running onboarding and internal communications staff are the people it is built around. Marketing teams use it for product explainers, and developers reach the avatars and dubbing through the Video API and the Interactive Avatars API. Synthesia is bought by subscription and metered in credits, which video, dubbing, surveys and interactive avatars all draw from. A free Basic tier lets a team try it, and large organisations buy Enterprise by quote with SSO. Converting a slide deck is a common first job: the PowerPoint import builds a draft video that an editor then refines scene by scene. Localisation follows, with an English recording dubbed into the languages a workforce speaks. Sessions extend the same workspace to roleplay practice and conversational surveys, with each learner's completion and score tracked. Scenes draw on a company's own media library and Unsplash images around the avatar. For an organisation explaining one process to staff in many countries, Synthesia turns the training video into something edited like a document.
