PRTG Network Monitor

PRTG Network Monitor is network monitoring software for IT teams and MSPs, covering SNMP, NetFlow and sFlow traffic, syslog and remote sites.
PRTG Network Monitor is network monitoring software for IT teams and managed service providers who need one console for the uptime and traffic of servers, switches, routers and other devices. Paessler GmbH in Nuremberg makes it, and the company announced a strategic investment from the software investor Turn/River Capital on May 23, 2024. PRTG works through sensors, each watching one thing such as ping time, interface traffic or free disk space, and a central core server collects them. The product family also includes PRTG Enterprise Monitor and PRTG Hosted Monitor. The Add Sensor wizard sorts sensor types by what to monitor, target system and technology such as Ping, SNMP, WMI or flow protocols. SNMP polling covers versions 1, 2c and 3, and the MIB Importer turns vendor MIBs into OID libraries. Flow sensors read NetFlow, IPFIX, sFlow and jFlow data and show Top Talkers toplists, and a Packet Sniffer sensor reads headers on a local network card. Syslog Receiver and SNMP Trap Receiver sensors take in messages from devices and filter them for alerts. Notification triggers send email, SMS, push, Teams and Slack messages, and the Cisco WLC Access Point Overview sensor reports access point status and client counts from a Cisco wireless controller. The web interface shows the device tree as a sunburst view, alongside dashboards and maps that are arranged by hand, and an HTTP API returns sensor status and historic data. PRTG fits IT administrators and network teams who run servers, network gear and traffic monitoring from a central core, and managed service providers who watch several client networks. Windows Server or Windows 10 and 11 hosts the core, so it suits teams that already run Windows for infrastructure tools. Small setups can start on the Freeware Edition or the 30-day trial, while larger installations move to bigger sensor bundles, and Paessler recommends PRTG Enterprise Monitor for installations with many devices. PRTG Network Monitor is bought online by sensor bundle, sized to the number of sensors an installation needs. The jobs it does day to day are watching uptime, tracking bandwidth, analyzing flow data and keeping an eye on sites spread across locations. A classic remote probe or a multi-platform probe can sit at a remote site and report to the central core. Its integrations include Teams, Slack, Cisco Meraki, Veeam, VMware ESXi, Dell PowerEdge and WMI.
