MantisBT
by MantisBT • • Bug & Issue Tracking Software
MantisBT is an open-source bug tracker built on PHP, for software teams that want issue tracking on their own server, released under the GNU GPL.
MantisBT gives a software team one place to log a defect, assign it, follow it to a fix and keep clients informed along the way. The MantisBT Team, the community behind the project, first released it to the public in November 2000 and still maintains it. It runs as a web application on Linux, Windows or macOS servers and opens in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Edge. No company owns it, and anyone may use, modify and redistribute it within the terms of the licence. Custom fields add typed inputs to the issue form, such as string, numeric, float, email or enumeration, and are linked project by project. Administrators define custom statuses, then set which transitions each status allows and the minimum access level needed to make them. Issues relate to one another as parent and child or as dependencies, and Relationship Graphs draw those links. Per project role-based access control decides who reports, updates or manages, while email notifications reach team members and clients on updates, resolutions and comments. Time Tracking records effort on each issue, and the plugin system takes officially maintained and third-party extensions. The tracker suits development teams that keep their tools on infrastructure they control, with a PHP web server and MySQL or PostgreSQL already in place. Agencies and consultancies can give each client a project of its own, so a client sees only its own issues. Public projects can take reports through an anonymous account or let visitors sign up at reporter level. Teams download and install it themselves, and those who would rather not run a server can turn to MantisHub, a separate hosted service. Help comes from the community through forums, the official bug tracker, a wiki and chat. Most days the work is a queue of reports moving through the statuses a project has configured. Testers and clients file the reports, a lead assigns them, and developers log the time each fix took. Companies with a central directory sign users in through LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory, so staff use the accounts they already have. Interface strings and translations can be customised to the team's own wording. MantisBT fits teams that want an issue tracker they can read, patch and extend on their own servers.
