KnowledgeOwl is knowledge base software for customer help centers and internal documentation, from an independent, customer-funded company in Boulder.
KnowledgeOwl gives a team one place to write the answers its customers and colleagues keep asking for, and one search box to find them. KnowledgeOwl the company dates from 2015, works out of Boulder, Colorado, and runs on its own profits with no outside investment. The product is aimed at teams leaving Confluence spaces, SharePoint folders and scattered documents behind. Content lives in an article tree with unlimited nested categories, drag-and-drop reorganization and a table of contents for readers. Snippets hold text that repeats across articles, and versions let an author draft changes and mark them ready for review before they publish. Reader groups decide who sees which articles, so private and public content share one base. Readers get suggestions as they type a search, and the built-in AI chatbot answers only from the knowledge base, shows its sources and says when it has no answer. Owl Analytics reports article views, search terms, ratings and chatbot questions. A custom domain, HTML, CSS and JavaScript control, the Developer API and webhooks connect the base to the rest of a stack. KnowledgeOwl suits support and customer success teams that run a help center, and companies that keep internal procedures beside their customer documentation. Organisations with stricter access rules get SAML SSO, Salesforce SSO, remote authentication and custom author roles, along with compliance agreements for GDPR and HIPAA. It is sold by plan, with extra authors and extra knowledge bases added as a team grows. Every new account has its content migrated and a custom theme designed by the KnowledgeOwl team before launch. A support team publishes a branded help center on its own domain, watches for searches that come up empty and writes the missing articles. An operations team keeps its procedures in a private base, and one customer reports the chatbot finding the correct core banking procedure every time. Teams arriving from Zendesk Guide or Confluence bring their articles across in the migration, and Salesforce users sign in to private content with the accounts they already have. The contextual help widget places articles inside a web application, so the answer appears on the screen where a customer got stuck.
