Figma is a browser-based design and vector tool where product teams draw, prototype and hand off in one file, on Full, Dev and Collab seats.
Figma is a browser-based design platform for teams that draw, prototype and ship digital products together. It answers a problem that desktop design files created: work that sits on one machine, in one person's copy, and reaches everyone else as an export. Every Figma file opens from a link, and several people can edit the same canvas at once. The platform is made by Figma, Inc., which has been building it since 2012. Figma Design is the editor, where vector networks drawn with the Pen tool, components, variables and auto layout hold a file together as it grows. Figma Draw brings illustration tools to that same canvas, including image vectorization that turns a picture into editable paths. FigJam covers whiteboard sessions, Figma Slides covers presentations, and Figma Buzz, in beta, covers on-brand marketing assets. Dev Mode gives engineers inspection and code, and the Figma MCP Server passes that context to coding tools. Figma Make builds a working prototype from a written prompt, Figma Sites publishes pages from a design, and the AI features across the platform draw on a shared pool of AI credits. Figma suits product teams whose designers, researchers, writers and engineers need one file rather than a round of exports. Solo designers work in unlimited drafts, a single team shares libraries and projects, and larger companies publish resources across teams with central administration. Students and educators have their own route in through Figma for Education. It is bought per seat, and the seats differ: Full seats edit, Dev seats inspect and build, and Collab seats comment and use FigJam. What gets made in Figma is app and website screens, design systems, clickable prototypes for user testing, icon and illustration sets, and assets exported with the Slice tool for iOS, Android and the web. Review happens in the file through comments and cursor chat, so the feedback sits next to the design it is about. Plugins, UI kits and templates from the Figma Community extend the editor, and Dev Mode carries finished screens into the tools engineers already work in. Because it runs in a browser, a Figma file reaches a stakeholder who has never installed a design tool.
