Documenso is open source e-signature software with an API and embedding SDKs, for developers and small teams, used as a hosted service or self-hosted.
Documenso handles the signing step of an agreement. A sender uploads a document, places fields for each recipient and sends it, then gets back the signed file with a signing certificate. Documenso Inc. builds and owns it. The community edition's source code is public on GitHub under the GNU Affero General Public License. The company runs it as a hosted service, and organisations can also run it on their own infrastructure. Documents are prepared in an editor that places signature, initials, date, text, checkbox and dropdown fields. Each recipient has a role (signer, approver, viewer, assistant or CC), and signing runs in parallel or in a set sequence. Templates save a prepared document for reuse, and a CSV upload turns one template into a separate document per row. Direct links let anyone open a template, enter their details and sign. Signing reminders email recipients who have not finished, and recipient expiration sets a deadline to sign. Built-in signatures are simple electronic signatures with a published legal basis under ESIGN, UETA and eIDAS. Developers reach the workflow through a REST API, webhooks and SDKs for React, Vue, Svelte, Angular, Solid and Preact. Organisations that must keep agreements on their own servers self-host. Individuals and small teams start on a free plan for occasional signing and move up to paid plans. Typical jobs are a contract sent to several parties in a fixed order, offer letters sent to a list of new hires, and a sign-up agreement published behind one link. Software companies embed the signing step in a customer-facing app, with their logo on the signing page or a whitelabel flow on the Platform plan. Operations teams start signing requests from other tools through Zapier, and companies on Microsoft Entra ID sign staff in with single sign-on. Every completed agreement keeps an audit log of when it was sent, viewed and signed, with IP addresses and timestamps. Documenso suits teams that want e-signature they can read, embed or host themselves.
