Datawrapper is a data visualization tool for newsrooms and teams publishing interactive charts, maps and tables online; the free tier keeps attribution.

Datawrapper is a web-based data visualization tool for newsrooms and teams that publish charts, maps and tables as interactive embeds or as images. It is made by Datawrapper GmbH, an independent company based in Berlin, Germany, and it launched its first public beta in February 2012. The whole product is one web app that produces publication-ready visualizations. The editor runs in the browser, and a visualization can be started without an account. The editor moves through four steps: Upload Data, Check & Describe, Visualize, and Publish & Export. Data arrives by paste or upload, or from a linked Google Sheet or a CSV or JSON URL. A linked source keeps a published chart current without republishing. The chart library covers more than 20 types, among them line and area charts, pie and donut charts, dot plots, scatterplots, waterfall and dual-axis charts. Maps come as symbol, choropleth and locator maps drawn on a choice of more than 4000 basemaps and cartograms. Tables publish with search, sorting and pagination, and their columns can carry heatmap shading and miniature charts. Annotations, range highlights and reference lines sit directly on the chart, and readers see tooltips on hover. Published charts carry alt text, can be navigated with the Tab key, and pass an automatic colorblind check. Finished work publishes as a responsive embed or downloads as PNG, PDF or SVG. Dark mode, print export and localization are part of the same editor. Datawrapper suits data journalists and editors who publish charts alongside their articles. It also suits communications teams that publish figures on their own sites. Organizations that want new charts to follow a house design get a custom theme with their own fonts and color palettes. Teams work in a shared workspace with folders and permissions. The edit history keeps a record of changes for a period set by the plan. Developers create and edit charts programmatically through the Datawrapper API, which moves to usage-based billing on 1 October 2026. Datawrapper is sold in Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers. Pro and Business are priced per user, monthly or annually, Enterprise is quoted, and custom themes are an add-on. Datawrapper charts are used inside articles and reports, embedded in a content management system with the responsive embed code. They are placed in PowerPoint decks through the PowerPoint integration, or exported as images for print and social posts. Enterprise customers serve published visualizations from their own hosting and sign in through SAML single sign-on. The tool sits beside the spreadsheet where the data is prepared and the CMS where the chart is embedded. The Datawrapper Academy documents each step from upload to publish.
