It exists so that a pricing change can be configured instead of built: new plans, pricing models, discounts and packaging rules are set in the product catalog rather than in the code that issues invoices. Chargebee, Inc. has run it since 2011 and delivers it as hosted software on chargebee.com. Chargebee Billing carries the price book, the subscription and the invoice, with calendar billing, advance invoices, consolidated and backdated invoicing, credit notes, coupons and automatic proration when a plan changes mid cycle. Usage ingestion meters events in near real time and charges them as tiered, volume, stairstep or hybrid rates beside a flat fee. Payments run through hosted pages, Chargebee.js tokenization and a long list of gateways, with basic and smart dunning chasing collections that fail. Around that core, Chargebee CPQ builds quotes from the live catalog with approval rules, ramped pricing and e signature; Chargebee RevRec maps billing events to ASC 606 schedules and deferred revenue reports; Chargebee Growth runs pricing tables, retention plays and churn prediction; and Chargebee Entitlements ties feature access to the plan a customer bought. Chargebee suits SaaS and AI companies that sell more than one pricing model at once, and finance teams whose revenue schedule has to hold up in an audit. It fits RevOps and billing operations groups at companies past their first product, particularly those invoicing in several currencies or through more than one legal entity. It is bought as one platform whose Billing price moves with monthly invoicing volume, with CPQ, RevRec and Growth charged as their own modules. The admin console is where the routine sits: creating and amending subscriptions, pausing or cancelling them, issuing credit notes, watching MRR and churn in RevenueStory, and reconciling tax through Avalara AvaTax or Anrok. Customers handle their own upgrades, payment method changes and cancellations in the hosted portal. Chargebee sits between the product that records usage and the systems that book the money, so it connects to Salesforce, HubSpot, NetSuite, Xero, QuickBooks, Intacct, Stripe, Adyen, GoCardless, PayPal, Slack and Zapier, and it exposes webhooks and an API for whatever is left.
