Brainboard
by Brainboard • • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Tools
Brainboard is a visual infrastructure-as-code designer for cloud and DevOps teams, working as a design and CI/CD layer on top of Terraform and OpenTofu.
Brainboard lets an engineer draw a cloud architecture on a canvas and get the matching Terraform or OpenTofu code from it. Terraform and OpenTofu still do the provisioning underneath, while Brainboard adds the drawing, the review steps and the deployment pipeline around them. The result is one project that holds both the picture of the infrastructure and the code that builds it. Brainboard, Inc. makes it as its only product and is an independent company. Design happens in the Smart Cloud Designer, a canvas with a resource palette for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Architectures start from scratch, from public templates, from public and private Terraform modules, or from existing AWS and Azure resources imported into code. Each architecture is versioned and synced with a Git repository. The CI/CD Designer runs the pipelines: workflows validate and plan each change, and any task can wait for named approvers. Plugins add Infracost cost diffs and Checkov, Terrascan or OPA code scans, and a scheduled workflow flags drift between the code and deployed resources. Brainboard is built for cloud architects, platform engineers and DevOps teams who think about infrastructure as diagrams but ship it as code. It suits teams working across more than one cloud, since one canvas covers all four providers. Organisations with resources inside private networks run their jobs through self-hosted runners that connect out to the Brainboard API. Custom roles grant plan, apply, destroy or pipeline rights on individual projects, environments and architectures, which lets access grow from a small team to an enterprise. A typical job starts with drawing a new environment or importing an existing one, then pushing the generated Terraform to the team's GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps or Bitbucket repository. Before an apply, the pipeline shows the plan and the Infracost diff of monthly cost, and an approver releases the change. After deployment, the drift workflow runs on its cron schedule and fails when live resources no longer match the code. Brainboard fits teams that want design, review, deployment and drift checks for Terraform or OpenTofu inside one visual workspace.
