Bitbucket is Atlassian's Git code hosting and CI/CD service, with pull request review, Pipelines and Jira links, sold per user in the cloud or self-managed.

Bitbucket gives software teams one place to store Git repositories, review changes and run the builds that ship them. It closes the gap between writing code and releasing it by keeping review threads, build logs and deployment status next to the code itself. Bitbucket is an Atlassian product, sold alongside Jira, Confluence and Trello, and its cloud service runs at bitbucket.org. For organizations with strict regulatory or security requirements, Atlassian also offers Bitbucket Data Center as a self-managed edition. Work centres on pull requests, where reviewers comment inline, approve changes and see scanning, testing and analysis results through code insights. Branch permissions guard named branches, merge checks can hold a pull request until it has enough approvals, and merge queues line up approved changes. A CODEOWNERS file adds suggested reviewers whenever files under matching paths change. Bitbucket Pipelines runs builds and tests from a bitbucket-pipelines.yml file, follows releases through deployment environments and can hand jobs to self-hosted runners. Git LFS, a package registry that starts with container images, repository wikis and static sites on bitbucket.io round out the hosting side. Bitbucket suits development teams that already plan in Jira and want branches, commits and pull requests visible against each work item. It also fits smaller teams that would rather keep CI in the repository than maintain a separate build server. Larger organizations tighten access with IP allowlisting, required two-step verification and access tokens scoped to a repository, project or workspace. Atlassian Guard adds SAML single sign-on and an organization audit log for companies that manage identity centrally. Teams that must keep source code on their own servers run Data Center instead of the cloud service. A typical change starts as a branch created from a Jira work item, then picks up a Pipelines build on every push. Reviewers approve the pull request, an AI-drafted description summarises it, and Pipelines carries the merged change through the team's deployment environments. Security teams bring scanners such as Snyk into the same pull request view, so findings arrive before the merge rather than after release. Container images built in the pipeline can sit in the package registry beside the repository that produced them. Bitbucket fits teams that want the path from a planned Jira task to reviewed, deployed code to stay inside one Atlassian workspace.
