Artbreeder is an AI image generator for blending pictures and text prompts into new art and remixing members' work, with a free tier and credit-based Pro plans.

Artbreeder turns a few pictures and a line of text into new images, then lets anyone branch, blend and rework the result. It treats image making as mixing and adjusting, with source images and editable traits doing much of the steering. Joel Simon and Studio Morphogen created it, and the independent studio still runs it. Members make their work in public, so most images can be picked up and changed by someone else. Prompter turns text into images, while Composer mixes images and text with closer control over the outcome. Mixer2 blends several images into a more complex prompt. Splicer and Splicer2 mix uploaded or shared pictures and edit their genes, which is how many portraits and characters on the site are shaped. Outpainter expands an existing Artbreeder image past its edges, and Worlds creates a whole world from any single image. Collager and Animator complete the set, with Animator reserved for Pro members. Artbreeder is made for independent creators who explore characters, portraits and imagined places, and who enjoy sharing them with others. Anyone can start on the free tier, which keeps Splicer images and slower Collager generation open at no charge. Artbreeder Pro is a subscription sold as credit bundles of different sizes, billed monthly or yearly. Credits pay for generation beyond the free features. Pro also removes ads, adds privacy controls and Google Drive sync, speeds up Splicer and adds high-resolution downloads. A typical session starts with a character or a face, which is branched into variations and refined one trait at a time. Other work begins from an uploaded image that grows into a full scene in Worlds, or from a finished piece widened with Outpainter. Completed images sync to Google Drive for use elsewhere, and members also meet in the Artbreeder Discord server. Contests and remix parties hand out shared subjects to work from, which suits people who treat image making as a regular creative habit.
