MariaDB is the database company behind MariaDB Community Server, Enterprise Platform and MariaDB Cloud, and the owner of the GridGain in-memory platform.
The MariaDB database began after Oracle acquired MySQL, and the company has extended it with members of the original MySQL core team. MariaDB plc, the legal entity, has headquarters in Silicon Valley and Ireland, with its main office in Milpitas, California. Its work centres on one relational database that it develops, supports and runs for customers. That database reaches buyers in three forms. Community Server is the open-source edition, released under the GNU General Public License version 2. Enterprise Platform is the supported build for self-managed deployments, with MaxScale for failover, Enterprise Manager for monitoring, a Kubernetes Operator and 24x7 support. MariaDB Cloud operates it as a managed service on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. MariaDB Exa, based on Exasol's massively parallel processing, covers large-scale analytics. In March 2026 MariaDB completed its acquisition of GridGain, whose in-memory cache and distributed compute now ship inside Enterprise Platform. Its customers are businesses, banks among them, that run transactional and analytical workloads on MariaDB and want MySQL or Oracle compatibility without rewriting their applications.
