Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant for coding, research and document work, with Claude Code, Cowork, Design and Science bundled into one subscription.
Claude is an AI assistant built by Anthropic, an independent AI research company and Public Benefit Corporation. It covers the work between a blank page and a finished artifact: writing and debugging code, reading long documents, analyzing data and producing drafts. Anthropic builds both the underlying Claude models and the applications people use them through. The assistant, the coding agent and the developer API all run on the same family of models. The chat assistant runs on the web, on iOS and Android and on the desktop. Voice mode, extended thinking and Projects sit inside it, so related chats and documents stay together. Claude Code brings the same models into the terminal as an agent that reads a repository and edits files. Claude Cowork runs a long task in the background and returns a document, deck or spreadsheet, while Claude Design and Claude Science cover design and research work. Remote MCP connectors link Claude to Google Workspace and Slack, and @Claude joins a Slack channel as a teammate in beta. Claude suits developers, analysts and knowledge workers whose day is spent in code, documents and data. Individuals buy Pro, or Max when heavy sessions need a higher usage ceiling. Teams of 2 to 150 buy standard or premium seats, and larger organizations move to Enterprise for SCIM, audit logs, role-based access and custom data retention. Every subscription is bought per person or per seat, with one login covering the assistant, Claude Code and Cowork, and the API is metered separately. The plan cards list every tier. In practice it is used to write and review application code, refactor an existing codebase, analyze spreadsheets and summarize long reports. Product and design teams draft specifications and mock up interfaces with it, and research teams work through papers and datasets. It connects to Google Workspace, Slack and Microsoft 365, and through MCP to other internal tools, so it sits beside the editor, the terminal and the chat client a team already runs. Developers build their own applications on the same models through the Claude Developer Platform, where agents, web search and sandboxed code execution are wired in.
